History

In 1997 Jill and Keith along with very good friends Sandra Maudling and Val Nelson founded Mark One Youth Praise Band. This was based at the Elim Pentecostal Church in Whitehaven. In 2006 we moved operations down the coast and began Waymark with a new group of young people and helpers from Mark One.

For eight years Waymark Youth Praise Band was privileged to provide contemporary and traditional worship music at many services and celebrations across all the churches in Gosforth, Drigg and Seascale, and also at a number of Methodist and ecumenical events in Egremont.

The links in the two paragraphs above take you to the archived websites for Waymark and Mark One. All the pictures should appear but links to other websites might not work and the older contact details might have changed.

In 2014, as some of our members were getting a little more mature than they used to be, we decided that the time had come for us to change our name and our focus. So from the ashes of Waymark, Phoenix Praise All-Age Worship Band arose at the beginning of that September. Though the name and age-range of the band had changed, our underlying aims remained the same: to have fun making Christian music together and enjoying wide-ranging discussions about life, the universe and everything.

Just like Waymark, Phoenix has provided music for many ‘Churches Together’ events in the Gosforth, Seascale and Egremont area, working with representatives of all the local churches: Methodist, Anglican and Roman Catholic.
